Reconstructed or Recovered Theft Titles

A Reconstructed Title is issued to a vehicle that was previously titled as Salvage Repairable but that has been repaired, inspected, and re-Titled as Reconstructed.

 

A Recovered Theft Title is issued to a vehicle that was previously titled as Salvage Repairable Theft with damage sustained from a theft and that has been repaired, inspected, and re-Titled as Recovered Theft.

 

To apply for a Reconstructed Title or Recovered Theft Title, a customer must bring the following documents in person to any RMV Full Service Center:

1.  A completed RMV-1 Form. If registering the vehicle, the RMV-1 Form must be stamped by the customer's insurance agent

2.  The current Salvage Repairable Title with the Assignment of Title section(s) on the back of the Title completed, and an Authorization for Payoff of a Salvage Vehicle if applicable

3.  The Certificate of Salvage Inspection, completed by an inspector, stamped with the Registrar's signature

4.  Current Certificate of Registration, if applicable

5.  Reconstructed or Recovered Theft Title fee. Please see the Title Fees section for the applicable fee.

 

The Reconstructed or Recovered Theft Title will be mailed within four to six weeks to the owner’s mailing address on record.
