A customer must provide a valid Social Security number to apply for a commercial driver’s permit, and must be 18 years of age or older to qualify for a commercial driver’s permit or license with an intrastate-only restriction. The customer must be 21 years of age or older to qualify for a commercial driver’s permit or license without an intrastate-only restriction. Finally, the customer must provide proof of his/her signature and residence in Massachusetts.
When a customer applies for his/her commercial driver’s permit, he/she may be required to provide additional information in the following situations:
1. The customer has changed his/her name
2. The customer has changed his/her gender
If a customer’s application cannot be processed at this stage, he/she is entitled to an explanation and an appeals process.
