Commercial Driver’s License Downgrade

This section provides the Registry of Motor Vehicles’ current transactional policy for downgrading a commercial driver’s license as a passenger license.

While downgrading a commercial driver’s license, the customer is required to complete his/her transaction at an RMV Service Center,  must pass a vision test and must present his/her current or expired commercial driver’s license at the time of the transaction appointment.

The customer will lose all commercial driver’s license privileges upon downgrading to a passenger license, and must apply for a commercial driver’s permit and go through the entire testing process, should he/she wish to regain his commercial driver’s license privileges.

Customers should refer to the section on Class D/M license renewal for the policies that may apply.
