Adding/Amending a Lienholder

If a customer needs to add or change a lienholder listed on his/her Title, he/she must apply to amend this information.

 

To add a lienholder to an existing Title the owner must submit to the Registry of Motor Vehicles:

1.  A completed Title Amendment Form

2.  The original Certificate of Title

3.  Title Amendment fee for adding a lienholder. Please see the Title Fees section for the applicable fee

 

To change a lienholder on an existing Title, the owner must submit to the Registry of Motor Vehicles:

1.  A completed Title Amendment Form

2.  The original Certificate of Title with the lien released

3.  Title Amendment fee for adding a lienholder. Please see the Title Fees section for the applicable fee

 

An Amended Title will be printed and mailed to the new lienholder. In the case of an Electronic Lien and Titles Program lienholder, the Title record will be sent electronically.

 

If a transaction is processed with an incorrect lienholder listed on the RMV-1 Form and the Title has not been issued, to have a Title issued listing the correct lienholder, a customer must submit the following to the Title Division:

      A completed Title Amendment Form

      Title fee for adding a lienholder. Please see the Title Fees section for the applicable fee.

      A Lien Release from the lienholder listed incorrectly

 

If a transaction is processed without a lienholder listed on the RMV-1 Form, and the Title has not been issued, to have a Title issued listing a lienholder, a customer must submit the following to the Title Division:

      A completed Title Amendment Form

      Title fee for adding a lienholder. Please see the Title Fees section for the applicable fee.
