Suspensions and Revocations Policy

This section provides the Registry of Motor Vehicles’ current suspensions and revocations policy.

A driver's license is a privilege and not a right. The Registrar of Motor Vehicles has the right to suspend or revoke a customer’s permit/license or right to operate according to Massachusetts law or when he/she considers the customer to be a threat to public safety. Some motor vehicle violations require the immediate suspension or revocation of the permit/license. A permit/license can also be suspended or revoked if a customer commits many moving violations over time or is at fault in many accidents.

A customer with a suspension or revocation on his/her permit/license should contact a Driver Control Unit Hearings Officer.
