A class D or M road test can be scheduled by a customer online or by calling the RMV’s Contact Center. The customer also has the option of prepaying for his/her road test and license fees at the time of scheduling the road test.
If the customer is under 18 years of age, he/she must complete a six month period with a clean driving record on or before the date the road test is scheduled.
A customer under 18 years of age will not be allowed to take the road test when scheduled if the Registry of Motor Vehicles receives notice of an event that would cause the six month (184 days) clean driving period to be interrupted between the date the test was scheduled and the date of the test itself.
If the Registry of Motor Vehicles learns of a subsequent citation or surchargeable event after a customer less than 18 years of age has taken and passed a road test, a permanent license will not be issued to the customer.
A customer is allowed to take a maximum of six Class D road tests in a 12 month period. For Class M, if a customer fails two road tests, he/she must enroll in and successfully complete a Motorcycle Safety Foundation Basic Rider Course in order to obtain a Class M license.
